On entering this well-placed hotel I felt reassured; like it has a sense of calm respectability about it. The bar and restaurant contain a lot of funky, colourful contemporary artworks (known as the ‘Atelier Gallery’). It’s a good place to simply pop in for a drink in the lounge with parents or grandparents who admire the reliability of a reputable hotel, and the lounge is a good place to sit for a bit of peace and quiet. The restaurant too is worth checking out if you are staying here, as it is run by Chris Staines, previously a London based and Michelin star chef! The hotel has a lift and some rooms on the ground floor, which are bright with nicely tiled bathrooms. I liked the bright rooms even through they are quite unimaginative/standard designs and fittings. The beds are inviting and comfy. Front facing rooms enjoy the impressive river across the stone-slab pedestrian square (although noise levels out the front could rise on weekends when the students are about.) This area leads into various enticing cobbled alleyways. Back facing rooms have less exciting views over walls and roof-tops, but some upper level rooms feature quite cool, original stone walls, which add something special.
