The Best Western Denver is exactly like every other Best Western I’ve seen. It’s located on the east side of town near the entrance to the I-70, and it’s clear most of the people who stay here are just passing through. Rooms have the essentials—a decent bed, a clean bathroom, TV, phone, a relatively updated look—and are totally forgettable. There’s a pool though, which is great if you’ve got kids who need to blow off some steam after a long car ride. In the morning, there's also one of those do-it-yourself breakfast bars with cereal, bagels, muffins, coffee and juice. It’s a perfectly acceptable place to stay for a night. For the rack rate, though, it’s worth checking out the neighboring hotels, which are a lot nicer but not significantly more expensive.

With a DoubleTree, Holiday Inn and a Renaissance all within a couple blocks, you may feel a bit sheepish pulling up here. Then again, there's nothing wroing with saving money, and the Best Western is usually a solid choice for travelers on a budget. This particular hotel has a surprisingly nice pool: big and clean, with tables and lounge chairs all around. It’s outdoors, so only open in the summer, but a welcome change from the dinky and dingy pools at so many other economy hotels. Rooms are reasonably clean and spacious, though nothing to write home about. The breakfast area is almost an afterthought—just a handful of tables at the top of the stairs from the lobby—but it’s nice not to have to pack everyone up just to get something to eat in the morning. Otherwise, there's a McDonald's with a Playland across the street. All told, this is a simple decent option for when you're watching the wallet.
