A Dublin institution, Bewley's is the perfect place to spend a few hours people watching from the upstairs balcony and windows, and observing the hours go by over a cup or pot of good coffee and a slice of cake. Always popular, always busy with tourists and local folk alike it's easy to see why it can be hard to find a seat!Recommended for:

On the same site since 1927. There was a public outcry when it closed down a few years ago and magically it reappeared. Somewhat of an institution, it was mentioned in James Joyce's 'Dubliners' and was the haunt of many literary and artistic figures such as Sean O'Casey, Patrick Cavanagh and Samuel Beckett. Not quite the same as long ago but still a place of character in which to drink your coffee.

Right in the heart of Grafton Street you'll enjoy a full Irish Breakfast or just possibly a scone and some wonderful coffee. Do try to go to the back room and check out the beautiful stained glass windows.
