    Akaka Falls State Park

End of Route 220, Honomu, HI 96728
    4.5
    79 reviews

A short walk to see 2 spectacular waterfalls. Also, it's a scenic drive through farmland from the charming town of Honomu up to the park. It's a state park so it's free to visit (or at least it was the last time I went there, other say it costs $1), although I think you may have to pay to park ...

    Rainbow Falls

    Hilo, Hawaii
    4.5
    71 reviews

Not too much here. It's located close to downtown Hilo, so it's something to do if you're in the area. You drive to the parking lot and you can basically see the falls from your car. It's a super short walk over to a viewing area (maybe less than 100 yards). It's good for people who wouldn't be able to ...

I love the waves here in the winter. If you like to bodyboard then this is a shore break spot you might want to check out. Very easy to get to. They recently started charging $5 for parking if you're not a resident. In the summer months it is flat, and a great place for kids to play.

A fun and interesting museum located next to a nice snorkeling spot. I found the entry a bit difficult for little children, but for adult it should be fine.

it's the new flow and the only flow into the ocean currently in the world. It's a couple of miles drive down the highway from the house, park the car then get ready for a 20 minute or so hike. Night view is wonderful. Taking an early morning boat over to view the flow from the ocean is amazing too.

This is an easy access snorkel spot. Gear can be rented on the beach and the fish are plentiful. I only gave it 4 stars because it is often a crowded beach and I have many other snorkel spots I would recommend, depending on your circumstances.

Very lovely walkthrough of hidden nature, cool and refreshing and nestled inside the trees. It's well-lit and an easy walk, though tread carefully as it can get wet. It's beautiful inside. I really loved it.

This is where Captain Cook was killed- do some reading up on it- fascinating stuff. There is a monument that you can hike down to (not sure if he deserved a monument or not...). Great snorkeling. Small but beautiful little park at Manini Beach on the south side of Kealakekua Bay, with easy access to the water. The bay is ...

    Mauna Kea Beach

    39 reviews

This is our families number one favorite beach. You need to leave early enough to get to the hotel to get a parking pass, otherwise you can't enter the beach. We always try to get there before 9:00 am! Another option is to do valet parking to get to the beach but it's spendy. You can get your valet parking ...

Very nice vist. Great for photos, but if you are doing the trek to the volcano it is kind of a long detour. A much cooler side trip is to take the scenic drive to Onomea Bay which is about 5-6 miles before you get to Hilo. It is like going into a 50 year time warp. There is a ...

    Papakolea Green Sand Beach

    Papakolea, Hawaii USA

It's a pretty long drive from just about everywhere else on the Island, but it's worth it as a day trip if you have the time. You need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to the beach, but there are people who will give you a ride for about $10/person (or you can walk, but it's super windy and ...

Magic Sands Beach Park / Laaloa Beach Park

Ali'i Drive, Kailua Kona, HI 96740

A great place that is close to condo - about two to three miles down Alii road. Great boogie boarding and nice sands with beach volleyball net. It's called magic sands because sometimes it has all lava rock and sometimes it has all sand! It can also get crowded because it is so close to town.

The southern most point of Hawaii which also happens to be the southern most point in the United States the appropriately named "South Point" area of Hawaii is rather desolate. And that is part of what makes it so beautifully peaceful.

Where wild horse roam and wild ferns grow! It is one of the spot that Water World was filmed at with Kevin Costner. Truly one of the Big Island's most sacred places to visit. Hapuna Beach

Highway 19, Kamuela, Island of Hawaii

    23 reviews

It sometimes seems a little unfair how many gorgeous beaches the Kona side of the Big Island has. A long, gold-sand half-moon crescent, Hapuna is usually sun-drenched and filled with families and kids. Backed by a huge resort hotel, it's not my first choice for quiet, remote swimming waters. But if you want a busy beach scene and a well-groomed ...
