I think everybody stops here to take a picture of this historic bridge. If you want a less common vantage point, go east of the bridge on the north side and follow the dirt road a little ways up. Few people go up this way.

A feat of engineering given that it was built in the early 20th-century (with convict labor, no less), this is the classic photo-op stop for anyone heading south from the Monterey Peninsula into Big Sur. Pull over on the north side of the bridge for the best views.

A real landmark. The first time I saw it was in the movie "The Graduate" when Dustin Hoffman is seen driving across it on his way to stop Elaine's wedding. Only thing was, if you knew the positions of the two places you realized that he was driving in the wrong direction!

It's been featured in numerous print ads, commercials and even on TV, but since 1932 it's been an important feature in connecting Big Sur to the rest of Monterey County. The bridge is pretty easy to find, just take a drive down HWY 1, South of Carmel, and you will eventually drive across this very photogenic structure.
