Picture perfect Alpine lake in Bled, Slovenia. There is a castle on the hill and this island in the picture with a church on it. You can reach the church by rowing or being rowed in a traditional boat called a pletna. The setting is magical.

I ate, drank, and gazed in Bled, and don't think my time could have been spent any better.
Tiny strolls around the lake offset the ice cream and pizza intake, and long sits on the lawn offset the tiny strolls. If you stay here too long, you'll forget there's an outside world.

What can I say? Bled (and Lake Bled) is a wonderful place. It is very traditional and very pretty. I went across the lake and went up to the castle, where I spent ages looking down onto the lake. What a fantastic view! I could have stayed there forever. It was so peaceful just sitting by the lake.

Slovenia must have more beauty per square mile than any other country in the world. A tiny country (you could circumnavigate it in a day), Lake Bled is the apex of outlandishly stunning scenery. While other beautiful places might be content to simply exist as an alpine lake, Lake Bled one-ups Switzerland, Italy, France or Austria with an island, a beautiful church on this island, and a centuries-old castle overlooking the whole ridiculously glorious location. Oh, did I mention the Slovenian pastries available all over the charming town fronting the lake?
