This month we honored Pro User Frances Nguyen as our first ever All Star Gogobot New Yorker. Why does Frances rock? Not only does she generously share her travel experiences by recommending hot spots to the Gogobot community and writing for her blog SpontaneousHomebody, she also works with the United Nations to place Cambodian war criminals on trial.
I got to catch up with Frances and throw her a Gogobot Bon Voyage party before she left for Cambodia. We shared punch bowls and melt-in-your mouth bites at The Clover Club and I got to know her wonderful friends and family. New York will miss you Frances and we can’t wait to hear about your adventures abroad!
Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: How did you hear of Gogobot?Frances: Time Magazine-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: Where are you from and where have you lived?Frances: I’m from Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve lived in Beijing and Dalian, China. I currently reside in Portland, Oregon.-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: Favorite hobbies/ activities?Frances: Travel, cooking, running, bouldering, checking out hole-in-the-wall restaurants.-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: Where are the top 3 favorite places you have been?Frances: New York City for the city experience, Penang Island for the Southeast Asia experience, and Cartagena as an up-and-coming travel destination for South America.-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: What has been your most interesting/ memorable travel experience?Frances: This is a tough one. I don’t have the most interesting travel experience per se, but I can tell you a recent travel experience that I enjoyed. I took a night cruise around New York, and got to see the city lit up at night. I also got to see the Statue of Liberty at night when it was lit up too. It was really nice! Plus, I was with my family. Checking out new places while having good company always makes a travel experience memorable.-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: What is the name of your favorite hotel?Frances: Sam Sen Sam Place in Bangkok, Thailand. It’s a family owned guest house in a quiet, residential neighborhood with Buddhist temples nearby. The room was nicely decorated and the family cooks and serves breakfast for free. Also, if you have questions or need advice, the front desk is very helpful.-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: What is your favorite restaurant in NYC?Frances: Ooooo…..this is such a tough one. It depends on my mood quite honestly, but right now, I would really go for mussels and fries. BXL is a Belgian restaurant/pub and serves great mussels and fries and french onion soup.-Jenny Layne “Gogobot NYC”: What do you hope for with the future of Gogobot?Frances: I hope Gogobot continues to connect avid travelers throughout the world.Go,GoGogobot!
