Kevin Bludso, of Bludso’s BBQ, the drive-worthy takeout window in Compton, has gone Hollywood. His new joint on La Brea is significantly sleeker, but the food—fall-apart-tender Texas-style brisket, smoky and sweet baked beans, tangy mac and cheese—is just as good. And at the new spot, you can get your spare ribs with a mint julep pulled from the tap.

All this end of the world axis wobble talk must be true because somehow the South got transplanted to the West coast in Compton, CA! I haven't had fall off the bone smokey BBQ goodness since my foodie BBQ road trip from the Carolinas down to Texas. And my taste buds thank you for bringing me right back to the south Mr. Bludso! Everything is amazing but I highly recommend the Texas Sampler since you get a lil taste of everything. There was so much food you could feed a family of four. And don't forget the sides either. Greens, mac n cheese, potato salad and beans all authentic and about as good as it gets unless you book a quick flight to Texas that is. The cornbread and the white bread were a great compliment to the meal and served me well as an edible BBQ sauce napkin. Just like they do it in the South! Always a line down the sidewalk so I advise you to call in your order in advance and pick it up! Friendly wonderful staff, cash only and definitely worth the trip to Compton!
