Blue Angel Resort is a great dive resort located just south of downtown San Miguel. It has a laid back vibe and all the amenities divers look for (and then some): a reputable dive shop, lockers and drying racks for gear, a nice dock, good boats, basic modern rooms with ocean views, a breezy restaurant overlooking the Caribbean, a pool, and a handful of places to chill out in the sun or shade. The only thing really missing is a beach. That and the location outside of town pretty much requires a cab ride or a car rental if you want to explore San Miguel or the island a bit. Other than that, this place gets 2 thumbs up.Recommended for:

Laid back and easy going. I think since we booked majority of the rooms at the resort, we had a lot more flexibility in how things were ran. We had a blast, the services were great, and the accommodations were just fine for a diver looking to dive. The dive off the onsite beach access was a very nice dive offering much to see. The dive masters were wonderful and fun. Wish the surrounding town had more to offer though.

If you’re in Cozumel to dive, and to dive often, this friendly mid-size hotel may be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s right on the water, and has its own dive shop, pier, boats and hotel-dive packages. It’s also on the busy main road south of town, stuck between shops and tour agencies catering to cruise-shippers. For me that’s a drawback: I’d rather be somewhere I can walk to the main plaza, do some shopping, drop into a restaurant, etc., but hard-corps divers don’t usually have the time for such distractions. The rooms are basic but perfectly fine, most with two double beds, warm interior paint, and good bathrooms and amenities; ask for one on the top floor units, which have higher ceilings and better views. There’s a decent restaurant overlooking the water and good snorkeling right from the hotel, if you’ve got a non-diver in your group.
