In April, this boutique hotel will become part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, which is good to know if you have Marriott Rewards points to spend. The hotel is in the midst of renovations and will have a new patio area surrounding the splash pool, a new restaurant and a cocktail bar specializing in rum-based drinks. The rooms are also getting a refresh and feel light and beachy—it’s a lovely improvement on the older, more tropical color scheme that was in place when I stayed here six years ago. But the things I loved about the Blue Moon remain: it’s in a fantastic location, on Collins Avenue near 10th Street (ie: in the middle of the South Beach action) and it has wonderful, historic Art Deco bones. It’s also small enough that the staff remember you and you don’t feel even a hint of that thing so prevalent in Miami hotels: pretension.Recommended for:

Blue moon is a lovely boutique hotel and a welcoming respite from the madness of Collins Ave and Ocean. Although you're just steps away from the action and the beaches, Blue Moon feels like a sanctuary. Maybe it's the combination of modern décor and chic old world charm that makes Blue Moon a hidden gem in South Beach? In any case, this is a great way to experience Miami Beach. You're close to the action but can retreat to the relaxing pool or restaurant for rest and relaxation. The staff was also super friendly and helpful in every way. The customer service really makes a difference. My only complaint is the street construction, so make sure you book a room that is facing the other side.Recommended for:

As the Blue Moon was under major renovation during my visit, it's difficult for me to give it a totally fair assessment. I mean, I loved the centralized South Beach location, and the stately manor meets Art Deco architecture, but I was greatly disappointed in the overall bare aesthetics of this place, the fact that the pool was closed (it was amongst the things being renovated), and just an overall failure to impress. On the plus side, I found this hotel to be much more affordable than most South Beach Art Deco locations. Also, guests receive a 15% discount at the Grillfish restaurant, which is a fantastic deal. Overall, I hear the renovations are going to be game-changers for this place, so I'm holding out on anything worse than a 3 star review. If I end up coming back later this year and the Blue Moon blows my mind, I'd be happy to improve my rating!
