This hotel is classic and even kind of trendy, which is hard to find in a traditional city like Santiago. The staff is super friendly and helped me with anything I needed. The rooms are big and have lots of light, which is something that I value a lot: it’s not easy to find hotels that look luminous and spacey. The hotel was being renovated when I visited so I couldn’t actually see anything else besides the lobby, the rooms and the restaurant. I also liked that they sell local handicraft at the hotel and the decoration is both traditional Chilean but with an edgy twist. It’s difficult to combine those two and I think this hotel did it in a wonderful way!

In general, I’m not a big fan of hotels of this kind — hotels which tend to reach to the needs of people with a larger budget but who aren’t necessarily looking for character form their stay. This hotel was a typical example of those kinds of hotels which focus on being modern, neat and tidy. I felt like I was in a shopping mall. The staff were very nice and the bar was cute and cosy, but that didn’t make up for feeling just like another number in a grand space. Lots of Brazilians were visiting the hotel when I was there, which is normal for that time of year as they tend to visit to make the most of the snowy season.

My favorite feature in this hotel was the be. It was huge! It could sleep at least three adults with ease and probably four at a push. The pool is located on the seventh floor in the modern building, but they were renovating everything when I went, so there was no water, no swimming and no possible use of the small gym — situated alongside the pool on the same floor. The staff were really helpful. One of the porters has worked in the hotel since it first opened in 1991 and knew a lot about its gradual development over the years. The restaurant and breakfast room were pretty, but the whole thing just lacked character for me. There was nothing new about this hotel, nothing special, nothing to remember. But, going back to the bed, just to be clear… top marks for that!
