- Bluebeard's Castle HotelFirst to ReviewOct 21, 2012
This is the larger of the two “castle hotels” with a pirate history. (See Blackbeard’s above). Its public spaces are substantially larger and quite well-appointed. It is more of a hotel with reception and concierge desks, and a shuttle that runs between the various wings of guest accommodations. With gorgeous views of the harbor and historic downtown, the pool complex has a bubbling hot tub and faux boulders with a cascading waterfall.
Two big pluses here are the on-site restaurants, The Room with a View and the Banana Tree Grille, with its discounted bar and tapas menu at Happy Hour. Both are romantic, and have strong culinary reputations. Like many sprawling hotels everywhere, the public areas outshine the guestrooms, which are spacious, some with kitchenettes. However, guests, a stateside couple, told me that aside from one lovely gal, the staff did not like being bothered with any requests.
Know that although Bluebeard’s functions as a hotel, with a large percentage of its guests taking advantage of its moderate rates, it’s a RCI time-share property. My connection here is that I was a disc jockey at its former radio station!Recommended for:History Buffs
