Ok.. really did love it. Was taken here by Wahine Media owners as part of a post-conference dinner. Sat outside, ate fresh fish. Great appetizers. If you want something other than a tourist trap, this is it. 30 mins from Waikiki. Entree's about $19-23.

Where to start this review...Lets start with the best thing about it...THE VIEW & LOCATION...It's right on the Hawaii Kai Marina and any business with that kind of view has a great start under their belt.
That being said...They don't do much with that view.
I give everyone the 3 STIRKES RULE and it took my 5 VISITS to get to 3 STRIKES with Bluwater Grill.
The food is just OK...The price of that "OK" food is NOT worth it.
$20-30 for most dinner entrees...Just not worth it for the quality. The last time here I got the Special of the day, Ahi steak Rare...Can they seriously screw that up? YES, if they cook it too long and the Grade of the AHI sucks ( picked by the Chef, naturally )...Trying to pass off a low grade piece of Ahi and sell it as a high grade special for $25 bucks?
What is this chef smoking?
Lets dig a little deeper into the problem here...
The Pasta dishes are UN-ORIGINAL with a little Italian cheesiness tossed in...There is no ORDER to this menu...just a bunch of STUFF! Bluwater Grill isn't KNOWN for anything...If you are Good, you are known for something...Not here. There is NO FOCUS here! Either way this Menu is so over the cooks heads. They need to get back to basics here, build a menu that can be learned and focus on that...In the five times I have been here the food quality has NEVER been the same!
I guess the best way to say this is...there is NO FACE on Bluwater Grill...Even the Shack next door at least has a FACE...I hope people understand what I'm saying.
This place tries to be fancy...when it's just not. They try too damn hard when they should just chill out! They need a MAJOR makeover. They need to get New management and a New Ex. Chef and they need to pay him some good money to get this place on the MAP because it's OFF THE MAP TODAY! Like the actual show...this place could be cancelled by the public any day now...
If I was to compare this place to lets say Roy's down the street...it wouldn't even be on the MAP!
As for the service...It's just OK...Mistakes have happened by the staff 3 out of 5 visits...Even as far as to place an Order for something I NEVER ordered.
I will say the Pupu's and Desserts are good and the prices are reasonable.
It's SO hard for me to say I won't be going back here because it has such amazing potential, but then again, I have been saying that for years now! How this place stays above water is beyond me.
At one time I had brought my close friend in here and she owns a restaurant and didn't enjoy her visit either...She said to me she wishes the place would go under so she could buy it and make it what it should be.
This place could be SO AMAZING...it's a real God Damn shame it's NOT...
If this place had:
* Proper management
* An EXECUTIVE CHEF with a winning track record, not the same one they have had forever.
* A properly trained staff with customer service as their #1 priority
This place could soar under the right conditions but it's clear with an empty dining room at lunch and three quiet dinners for me during the week this place must realize there is something wrong.
Can't management see this? Come on now....This is what I mean by proper management...they just don't have it together over there, they don't see it and they don't get it.
Would I go here again? If they asked me to come back and paid for my meal I would. I would give it a final go to see if I would return. There is just something about this place...I just like so many things about it yet it is just off in so many other ways and that is why I still choose to give it 3 Stars...I still have HOPE for this place but it's fading...Fading fast.

A great local restaurant. They have a phenomenal patio with excellent views. Their mashed Okinawan sweet potatoes are fantastic. I highly recommend the steaks and the lamb. Every time we go we have a good experience and great service. The food is always fresh and well prepared. The Maui Onion Soup is another must order. This is a neighborhood favorite that we dine at frequently.
