Hidden away in an hidden corner of Back Bay, right at the foot of a parking garage, is the Boston Common Hotel and Conference Center. It's in such an odd location, I'm surprised that anyone is able to find it. Not only is this place in serious need of an update (the bedspreads look like they're from the 50s, the TVs are still the big old boxy sort, and the bathrooms are an unattractive yellow color), but it also doesn't appear to be very well maintained. I caught more than a few glimpses of chipped paint and darkened grouting while I was there and a smokey, dusty smell lingers wherever you go. It's a shame, since it's actually, architecturally speaking, kind of a cool building.

Adjacent from the beautiful glass palace of the John Hancock tower, the affiliation with the building ends with the name. An ugly parking garage hides the John Hancock Hotel and Conference Center, as the entrance was quite difficult to find. It’s conveniently located from Boston’s main attractions, but other than that, it’s an outdated hotel in the middle of Boston’s bustling metropolis. The rooms are dull, yet the supply the essentials: television, iron, and fridge. Not bad for an affordable stay, but the final nail on the coffin for me, was the unwelcoming staff.
