I grew up in the area, and the Brass Bell was always a favourite place to go for the locals. I returned to Cape Town a few months ago, and the Brass Bell was the first place we went. The food is not only as amazing as ever, at low prices (seafood is freshly caught every day!), but they've expanded and renovated - clearly doing very well.
If you're ever in the St James/ Kalk Bay area, The Brass Bell is the unofficial local attraction not to be passed by! Especially fun during a king tide, sitting out over the raging ocean.

We visited the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay in Winter 2010. We went to the Cabin Bar and Restaurant but there is also Izannes for fine dining, a bikini deck and the Water's Edge Pavillion. The Cabin Bar, was warm and friendly when we visited. Full of both locals and backpackers. There were a couple of good bands playing. The food was good and plentiful. There are great views over the bay and you can see and hear the waves crashing over the tidal pool walls, through the large picture windows. It was pretty spectacular to watch as a storm blew up, while we sat in the cosy bar feeling more than relieved that we were inside. The decor was cool and we loved it there!
