A fine but casual Hawthorne restaurant with a varied menu and the highest quality ingredients. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. About 15 blocks from our vacation rental. There's also a waffle window, unrelated, around the corner.

I had one of the best ice cream flavors here the last time I visited. It was one of their seasonal specials - Tillamook cheddar cheese and apple, something like that. It was a super combination of savory (cheese) and sweet (apple) and it rocked my world. Lines are usually long at Salt & Straw, but SO worth the wait ...

Deschutes Brewery & Public House is set in a industrial, spacious, 2-story building on the outskirts of the Pearl District. It's great for large happy hour gatherings or rowdy meet-ups with friends. The Happy Hour menu drinks are cheap and the food, while not extensive, is enough to carry you over until dinner.

Of all the local coffee roasters in Portland - and I tried a half dozen different ones over the course of a few days in town - Stumptown Roasters was the champ. Beautifully balanced roasts, strong enough for espresso (Hair Bender!) at home.

Definitely one of the BIGGEST and best restaurants in Portland. I could not believe the size of it and the food was great! Peruvian style tapas dishes, come for the happy hour. It's a bit on the pricey side so it's good for those special occasions but it's very hip and definitely worth checking out at least once while you ...

The wait on a Sunday morning was nearly an hour and a half. The food was good, but wouldn't normally have been worth the wait, however they provide coffee and a seating area, plus they will text you when a table opens up so you can walk around nearby. The decor was really cool and I would probably go again, ...

The great thing about tapas is you never get bored with your meal. There's always another small plate coming out. Get here early because you'll be fighting for a spot at this immensely popular spot. Order the Chef's tasting menu.

Do try Nong's Khao Man Gai. I loved it. Simple, flavorful and comforting to eat. It's tender pieces poached chicken on top of rice cooked in chicken broth, served with a delicious soy bean-ginger-garlic-vinegar-chili sauce, and wrapped up in butcher paper, old school style. I ate this dish sitting at a nearby park, as there was no seating. Nong's is ...
