"Brissy" is a lovely city, not too big, not too small, and pretty clean, with a personality all its own. Being up the coast in Queensland, it has a separate identity to New South Wales, Sydney, and parts south sort of like San Diego is different than Los Angeles in the US.
Besides the ocean nearby, it has its own river as well. It also has its own local beers, and of course, it's own crustaceans, Morton Bay "bugs", a lobster tail like shellfish only found in these parts.

Brisbane is a well-known up and comer on the Australian scene. One of the fastest growing cities in the world Brizzy is just starting to come into it's own on the international scene behind it's big sisters Sydney and Melbourne. A smaller much more manageable city Brisbane is a nice alternative to the big girls.

What does one say about ones home Town... bloody wonderful.. just go and discover a precinct or two, then a beer at the powerhouse and a show at the Arts Centre with a ferry ride in between in perfect weather.

Brisbane, the jewel of Queensland, is a river city with a newly glamorous reputation: Bris-vegas. Amongst the nightclubs, casino, and budding culinary scene, it's the place to go for bright lights in the Australian northeast. And while the glitz and buzz don't compare to Sydney or Melbourne, Brisbane is a largely friendly place with a charm all its own.Recommended for:Nightlife Lovers

The city straddles the Brisbane River, which meanders its way through leafy suburbs towards Moreton Bay. The capital of Queensland, it is a liveable city, well situated to take advantage of natural riches north towards the Sunshine Coast and south towards the Gold Coast and Hinterland.
While not the most dynamic city in the world, it does allow for a more sensible and relaxed lifestyle.
The cultural mix allows for bewitching culinary highlights in ethnic enclaves; public infrastructure, however, is sadly lacking when compared to significant world cities.

The first stop on my most recent trip to Australia was Brisbane, which is a one and a half hour flight north of Sydney. I met my cousin in this metropolitan city that is reminiscent of my previous hometown, San Diego. We started the evening by stumbling across unexpected surprises like large game night. After a serious game of Jenga, we nursed our jet lag by sipping champagne at the Treasury building and dining al fresa on Queens Street.
The next day we meandered through the botanical gardens to South Bank, which is the cultural center of the city and has a bounty of delicious dining options. Yet, we felt truly at home once we came upon West End. This urban area is filled with boutique shops and quaint, casual restaurants such as Burrows, a place known for pizzas and ciders. We ended our stay by witnessing a musical light show on the river. I hope our mates in Brizzy realize just how lucky they are.

Brisbane has a great array of "cultures". I stayed in West end, which is a great little hippy suburb, with houses on stilts, hippy boutiques, and lovely people, all shared a common interest.
I went for a walk to the art museum, and only wish I could've had more timr to wonder around the free attraction, as well as the museum next door. Such an impressive place.
