Simon Burrell of Our Man on the Ground recommends Buckingham Palace for the luxury traveler, "if only to pick up a few style tips!"

The official London residence of Queen Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh and their immediate family. The Palace is also the venue for great Royal ceremonies, State Visits and Investitures - A 2 minute walk from the apartment.

The Buckingham Palace tour opens every August and runs through September while the Queen is in residence up in Scotland. The tour through the palace itself is very interesting: it includes the state rooms and allows you plenty of time to stop and examine pictures etc. However, it does take some walking and little ones can get bored if you keep stopping. Especially if they are not in buggies/strollers. If you need a quick exit, approach one of the staff on guard and ask for the toilets (I usually tell them that our toddler can't hold it any longer) and they will take you through a shortcut to the end. Toilet has baby changing facilities.
The gardens at the end of the tour are magnificent. There is a cafe under a temporary roof or you can wander through the paths before stopping at the gift shop near the exit. For our boys, the garden is the best bit :)

One of the few tours that's actually worth it. But even if guided tours aren't your thing, just snap a couple of shots, particularly of the gardens out front.

At the end of the Mall - where Queen Liz lives. One of the places you'll probably regret NOT visiting. It is worth it, though you can only look through the railings. There is a museum there though, which does sometimes have great exhibitions on.

the royal family residence. THE royal family residence, of course this is a must visit when visiting London. The building itself has gone through bombings and cheers and see so many faces of Londoners and visitors cheering and hailing to the past Kings and Queens. So much wonderful history and stories.
