If you're in London I think you should visit Buckingham Palace, but it's not nearly as impressive as I had expected.

The official London residence of Queen Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh and their immediate family. The Palace is also the venue for great Royal ceremonies, State Visits and Investitures - A 2 minute walk from the apartment.

It's a must-see when in London - no explanation needed. It's pretty boring from the outside, except for the guards which somehow manage to be a source of endless entertainment even though they do absolutely nothing. From the inside however, you really get to see the beauty of it - the luxury and history.

My sisters could give you a better review as they attended a garden party here 20 yrs ago. For me its just somewhere I could have been to as I wasn't invited, but at least I've seen it from the road on numerous occasions.

Kind of crappy. Looks like a semi-nice apartment building behind a beautiful fence. 5 stars for the fence, 1 star for the palace.

It's a tourist must see, the large, oversized and cavernous home of the Queen of England. I love the hall with the display of all the gifts Elizabeth has received over the years

I did not venture inside, but definitely a must see. Don't miss the changing of the guards...a definite staple when in London!

Be sure to check the changing of the guard schedules for the best of British traditions! You can find it here: http://ow.ly/fSuvc

Hard to believe this is a residence. The building is massive. We walked right up and spent quite a bit of time peering through the ornate gates at the Palace - It may not be the most recognizable sight in London but it's one everyone should see at least once.

It's always worth seeing Buckingham Palace if it's your first visit to London. I still remember my "Oh my god, this is where the Queen lives!' moment the first time I came to London as a tourist :)

Personally I think Buckingham Palace is a bit overhyped. I know that its the palace of England, and that it is a quite big landmark, but except the change of guards, there is not much to see really. It is a quite big building, but to me it looks quite plain.
But sure, I think it still is a must see if you visit London, especially because it is within walking distance from a lot other great things in London.

I'm still amazed that I can walk down the a London Street and pass Buckingham Palace but I can't get close to 10 Downing Street. My London friends are immune to this.

Cool area with beautiful golden gates and statues. Walk around and take pictures. I believe there are tours.

If you are interested in royalty, this can be an interesting place to visit. There is an option of a guided tour to certain sections of the palace and a souvenir shop to lighten your pockets as well

Of course, you should stop by and see the Palace. If you can time it right (around 11:30AM) you can check the changing of the guard, complete with British military band, and lots of pomp and circumstance.

The Buckingham Palace tour opens every August and runs through September while the Queen is in residence up in Scotland. The tour through the palace itself is very interesting: it includes the state rooms and allows you plenty of time to stop and examine pictures etc. However, it does take some walking and little ones can get bored if you keep stopping. Especially if they are not in buggies/strollers. If you need a quick exit, approach one of the staff on guard and ask for the toilets (I usually tell them that our toddler can't hold it any longer) and they will take you through a shortcut to the end. Toilet has baby changing facilities.

The gardens at the end of the tour are magnificent. There is a cafe under a temporary roof or you can wander through the paths before stopping at the gift shop near the exit. For our boys, the garden is the best bit :)
