When in Budapest you've got to try the local pasty, the kreme - vanilla crème, sandwiched between layers of mille-feuille and finished with confectioner's sugar. This family-owned pattiserie - they've been baking kreme here since 1901 - may lack charm but it's the place in the city to sample one of these yummy cakes.Popular withFoodiesStudentsFamilies

The restaurant is on Váci Street, the main pedestrian shopping/dining thoroughfare in the heart of the city. A tourist trap, quite frankly, I was just too tired and hungry to be looking somewhere else. The goulash (not necessarily a soup or stew in Hungary) was acceptable.Popular withLocal

Need a coffee break? This is the Alexandra Cafe (aka Bookstore Cafe) at the Paris Gallery in Budapest. Grab an inexpensive macchiato and a slice of cake, and take in this view while you listen to live piano music. #yesthisisrealPopular withHistory

Eaten here several times.....atmosphere is very nice, food is 'not bad', although a bit overpriced. Good place to go with small or large group as its usually a fashionable, energetic crowd. Also, next door is bar called 'Mini' which they own and good for cocktails before or after.Popular withBusinessLuxuryDesign
Had one of the best meals of my life here. Real Hungarian goulash (a soup, not a roux as you'll find elsewhere along the Danube), a crepe-like dessert with poppy seeds, and Tokaji Aszu wine. If you are in Hungary, you simply must try Tokaji Aszu. Louis XVI called it the "King of the Wines"

If you're craving a little Mexican food in Budapest, Iguana is definitely the place to go. I used to come here with my friends on weekends quite a bit, and would sometimes take lunch breaks here when I worked at the Embassy (around the corner). The restaurant is festive and cozy, with an upstairs and downstairs section. Their burritos and ...Popular withFoodiesBusinessFamilies
A beautiful and spacious Italian restaurant, Pomo D'Oro serves up astounding Italian food at a forgiving price. The light brick interior contrasts the pristine table settings, creating a lovely air of intimacy. Decor aside, the food itself is wonderful. Seasonal offerings of fresh ravioli are the real highlight, backed by a well produced set of classic Italian staples. The service ...Popular withFoodies

In 2005, at the end of a long backpacking trip, friends of my then-girlfriend (who is Hungarian) brought us here for dinner. Trofea pushes all the right buttons for Hungarian cuisine. They have fantastic grilled meats of every variety and the most varied buffet salad bar that I've ever seen. The interior is tricked out like a hunting lodge with ...Popular withHistoryFamiliesLocal

A nice little pastry shop, where you should definitely eat a piece of cake. It was delicious!
