Such a great atmosphere! Had to present my poem from the Scholastic Writing Awards here, but didn't get a chance to try the food. Must investigate more.

I have to come back to this place every time I am in D.C. Such a fantastic atmosphere. Food, books, music, poetry. I wish every city had one of these. I would be in absolute bliss.

This place has grown quickly, in no small part because the food is fantastic, the art and events are inspiring, and the relaxed vibe is a perfect antidote to the chaos of the nation's capital. There is now usually a wait to be seated, but this is one of the best places in the city to have to wait around -- the small bookshop at the back is the perfect place to spend a half hour (or, perhaps, much longer). Check the website for open mics and special events.

I cannot say enough about this place.

I'm a sucker for coffee shops, and this cafe/bookstore/coffee shop encapsulates everything I love about sinking into a sofa with a latte and a good book. It actually serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well, but my last trip here involved meeting up with an old friend and spending god knows how long drinking tea and people watching. A simple order of tea comes with your own jar of honey, your own pot, and a chunk of lemon along with your teabag - even a mug of chai feels like an event the waitstaff has orchestrated just for you! Can't wait to come back and try their food.

B&P is very ok. The food is an eclectic mix, meaning there's really no safe plate to get here. If you're looking for something that that you already know the taste of, you won't find it as this restaurant. But the nail in the coffin is that everyone is always here, at maximum capacity, so the service is just naturally awful.

With a party of 7 we had a chance to taste many different dishes. All were delicious. Great option for a group with veggies and carnivores. Wait staff was awesome! "Eddie" made us feel like a close friend. Ask her about her artwork!

Excellent, progressive coffee shop in the heart of U St. The food is also good and it has an auditorium where events are held periodically. Book launches, round tables, etc.

Fell in love with the ambiance - neutral colors, political/historic portraits and art surround you.  We were seated immediately and had the hottest waiter ever.  My friend and I shared a plate of coconut crusted tofu as the app.  Though it did get a bit too sweet for an app towards the end, it was absolutely delicious.  A must order if you love coconut - it was sweet, but balanced out by the tofu, which I know tastes like nothing, but somehow it spread out the flavor.

The pesto lasagna was the meal of choice.  This vegan and gluten free choice came with spinich and mushrooms and such an amazing pesto sauce.  My entree surprised me with a piece of buttered toast cut in fours so that I can dip into the cream sauce.  The bread did taste a bit odd, but that might be b/c it was gluten free..so rich and very filling.

Overall, the meal was absolutely delicious and satisfying.  The service was great, ambiance was wonderful - it's a shame they don't have this chain in NYC as I would LOVE to be a regular!

Their menu was to die for if you are a vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, or only organic food. The atmosphere is very hipster but fun and loud. There is a bookstore at the front of the store that is really cute.

I am so in love with Busboys & Poets. When I lived nearby, I came often. The nachos are amazing. Everything on the menu is tasty, and it's got a great vibe with a little bookstore attached. I never came for any poetry or author events, but it's great that they're available!

This restaurant has a lot of vegetarian and organic food. This place is 100% wind powered. They have poetry slams and has a liberal vibe. Food is fine.
