ByWard Market is the tourist trap hangout spot in Ottawa. This place has tens of restaurants, shopping, and outdoor things to buy, from maple syrup to clothing and everything in between. If the rest of Ottawa is fairly dead, this area is somewhat alive. Check it out.

Love this place. First on my list of things whenever I visit the Ottawa area.
Lovely European feel to it, great cafes and restaurants. Great for people watching and just relaxing. There's also lots of fresh food stores here and you can easily spend 1-2 hours walking around the market and sitting down for some grub.

Byward market is a huge outdoor marketplace/shopping district in Ottawa. Part flea market, part food court, part established shops, this bustling bazaar is always alive, offering tasty treats, good eats, and plenty to see and do.
Walk around and soak up the sights; people watching is always great in the marketplace. If you're not a fan of street-food/food-carts, the area surrounding Byward Market is just as alive as the market itself-- and full of great restaurants and bars to try.
