Charming old-fashioned French restaurant located in the historic town of Mendocino. At first glanced, I thought this restaurant was a bed & breakfast inn. So tiny and tidy.
Started off with a toast of sparkling champagne and salad. Onto our main entrees of Petaluma duck confit with Spätezle to slightly grilled salmon embedded with risotto and asparagus. The meal was subtle and decent. Portion size was minimal.
Hard to say I was mind blown with their French cuisine. Maybe I've been too spoiled with French dining experienced that my expectation was too high for this place. Just maybe...Recommended for:

This place is the best place to eat in Mendocino for many reasons. That said, make reservation because around 7/8pm, it's couple wars for two-tops. With great local wines (mmm pinot noirs) from nearby and many seasonal dishes to try, you'll want to share and you won't be snubbed for it. It's a toasty atmosphere on a cold and misty evening by the ocean. Great date spot.Recommended for:

I have always enjoyed Cafe Beaujolais. The food is delicious. The service can be a bit slow and so can the kitchen, but it's truly worth the wait. The food and wine are excellent. The building is charming and has been remodeled. The bathroom is a walk outside. If you want fine dining, this is a wonderful place.

There are so many great dining options in the area, yet Cafe Beaujolais continues to to be at the top of my list of foodie destinations on the North Coast.
If by chance you are here when steak tare tare is on the nightly specials, do yourself a favor and GET IT!

Margaret Fox may be gone, but Cafe Beauj is still a MUST when in Mendo. Service, food quality, and presentation is still top-notch. Yes it's pricey...of all the splurge restaurants in Mendo, make this your first choice.

In Mendocino you can spend the day hiking, kayaking, getting sweaty and muddy, but then in the evening come here for an elegant, delicious and civilized dinner. For me, this is what being in California is all about.

Mmm, risotto. Crab cakes. Corn soup. The menu at Cafe Beaujolais (the top restaurant in the town of Mendocino for coming on to 1000 or so years now) is filled with one amazing item after another.
