Right on the bay front near to the park and the downtown bus station, Cafe Pesto is one of the first sites to welcome many into downtown Hilo. Pesto's is one of the larger more upscale restaurants in the downtown area. They specialize in Italian cuisine and are known for their wide variety of delicious pizzas! My personal favorite is the open-face crab quesadilla on the starter menu. Prepared with real crab, sour cream and cilanto pesto the appetizer size may leave you wanting more... luckily, even though it is not on the menu, you can order is as full-sided pizza too!

This is my favorite Hilo restaurant. Good atmosphere and I've never been disappointed in the food. They make a lot of effort to use locally grown fruits, veggies and meats so you know you're getting fresh, local food. Also, their pizza is really good. They also cater - they catered for 100 guests for our wedding and people really liked the food. It's usually pretty busy (esp. on weekends) so I recommend making reservations.

Everything we've ever eaten here is good food (salads, entrees, fresh fish, pizzas) and affordable for island restaurants. It can get crowded at dinner time so make a reservation if you want to be assured a table and not a wait. Located in Kawaihae which is the island's industrial port, there is no view or entertainment, just good food. Located approximately 20 minutes from our studio.
