I convinced a friend Cafeteria was my choice for his offer to buy me a birthday lunch (I've been a fan of the restaurant for over a decade). We were treated with incredible disrespect by one of the managers and a staff member. We were spoken to as if we were disgusting, the management refused to shake my hand at one point and was smug; guests arriving after us received two courses as we waited for our meal to arrive. The manager was venomous when we attempted to add a kale salad to the order (having no idea he was the manager that is when he refused to shake my hand). We finally decided to cancel our order after the manager reacted viciously as if we were beneath him. His reaction to our query about the missing order clarified he had profiled us and deemed us unworthy for no apparent reason. He even went so far as to cut us off mid-sentence. He actually poked me with a business card to corporate and when I asked his name for that report he confidentially and flippantly refused. Finally as we retrieved any last info from another manager at the front he erupted, 'will somebody get these f*ucking people our of MY RESTAURANT?!?!'. We were unfairly profiled and treated viciously by the unnamed manager. Cafeteria, this is just not ok. We left hungry. The sister establishment, Delicatessen, which is further downtown, also refused to give the name of the manager at Cafeteria and felt squeamish, even though we patronized the sister restaurant. I know people who have started their own hospitality businesses who train their staff to manage stress. Clearly, this manager didn't have the common sense, training or self discipline to not let his temper erupt for reasons unknown. Birthday assault. Cafeteria, this is just not ok.

When I first heard the name of this restaurant I thought of a public school cafeteria and the servers with hairnets lol, but Cafeteria is far from this vision. The restaurant is a trendy hip place that serves and merges the best selections from breakfast and lunch into a delightful brunch.

Come to Cafeteria to live your own SATC moment. Yes, this is the coffee shop the fab four used to come to dish about love and life. Like many other restaurants along 7th Ave, it's very sceney, which is super fun for people watching and being watched (if that's your thing).
This is such a great pre or post-partying spot. New Yorkers don't realize how lucky they are that places like these exist. A chic diner that's open 24/7?! It's 3:30am. Are you feeling like a burger, mac 'n cheese, hanger steak, or my late night ideal meal of truffle parmesean fries and white chocolate bread pudding? Yes? Well, Cafeteria's got it all.
Or if you're on a liquid diet, why not do like Carrie Bradshaw and the girls and go for their famous Cafeteria Cosmo (original or frozen), or choose from their variety of fru fru mojitos and martinis.

The food here never ceases to amaze me. Always consistent, always super yummy. A chic, hip diner that gets a beautiful crowd and has a great patio for those summer nights.Recommended for:Trendsters

I love going to cafeteria for brunch after a late night out. Their bloody Mary's, burgers, mac n cheese and legendary truffle fries hit the spot every time, and you'll love the friendly staff and cool environment! Watch out for their blasting A/C in the summer though.

I've only been here completely wasted after a nights bar hopping and clubbing. The food is great and thank God for the drinks.
At times it's almost like its own club, where there's a last stitch effort to pick up on nightclub and bar leftovers.
I wonder what it's like in daylight?

One of my first true NYC dining experiences 6 years ago and still going strong. Intoxicated at 4am? Hungover and meeting your friends for brunch at noon on a Sunday? Chances are, you are going to Cafeteria.
Perhaps it is the the smell of the truffle fries or the endless variety of mac and cheese that draws the alcohol-induced in its doors. The aloe lemonade, the fiery bloody mary, the juicy cheeseburger... Cafeteria summons all walks of life.
Words truly can not do this place justice. Instead of reading this review, just watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcH-yHJtlW4&feature=player_embedded

Tasty food, good service. The sliders were good, just not a lot of food. It would be nice if they came with fries rather than having to order them on the side. The Mac n cheese was good, but not worth $9. Overall I liked it, just could be cheaper.

Is it just me or does this food taste better when you’re drunk? Trick question--of course it’s not just me. If it’s 4am and you have a hankering for some mac’n’cheese, this is your spot. If it’s 7pm and you’re thinking of where to enjoy a nice meal, I’d suggest one of the other 2 million restaurants in NYC.
