Went up to cairns to dive the Great Barrier Reef as for beginner divers I was told this is probably the place to get the most out of your experience and they weren't wrong loved diving and am now hooked for life. Didn't get to do to much in cairns but the few places we went were very fun and had good atmospheres first is P.J O'Ryans Irish bar which is a favourite bar of mine in Sydney then the woolshack does great grub for a decent price and the Bavarian beer house with its litre of beers is a must. We stayed in asylum backpackers which looks grubby from the outside but the rooms were clean and the staff friendly as so our doubts vanished quickly

Has the greatest round Casino, the pier markets, Harley Davidson breakfast rides
complete with champagne, prawns and strawberries, or ultra lite flying in a 2 stroke motor mower engine plane, flight ceiling level 2000 feet..breathtaking.
Watching aboriginal dancers perform with gusto. Favorite beach Palm Cove
with it's quaint shopping & occasional crocodile or death adder lurking amongst
the fallen leaves. Port Douglas hosts the best marina, fab eating places, great boat tours. Kuranda on the Atherton Tablelands is a treat the only railway station I have seen with a mountain of floral hanging baskets, hard to see the actual station. Shopping is exciting in Cairns filled with gorgeous holiday &resort wear. For the golfing enthusiast there is Paradise Palms witha fantastic Club House. Lived there for 7 years, I'll be back.

Description

Enjoy tropical climes and explore the Great Barrier Reef in sunny Cairns QLD. Cool off with a dip in the swimming lagoon at Cairns esplanade, but you may want to leave the kiddies at home -- topless bathing is permitted here in laid-back Cairns. If topless beaches are not your scene, there are other ways to enjoy the water. Cairns is an international destination for scuba diving. Shimmy into a wetsuit and discover the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef system. Swim with the more than 1,500 species of fish and 30 species of whales, dolphins and porpoises that call the Great Barrier Reef home.
