    Abu el Sid

    157 26th Of July St.

Incredibly atmospheric bohemian Egyptian restaurant. Supposedly loved by Omar Sharif. Definitely upscale but drips with atmosphere. The food could be a little better but is still quite good. Reservations a must. Be sure to take a map. A little hard to find the door but once you see it, it is pretty obvious.

Excellent hole in the wall Egyptian restaurant. A great place to pick up cheap shwarma, garlic tomatoes, lentil soup, etc. Very very cheap but clean and tasty.

    Koshary Abou Tarek

    16 maarouf st., DOWNTOWN, Egypt

Must visit and try that food. Hygiene and interior (as well as exterior) could be better, but koshary are very tasty and unusual for European traveler. The prices are very cheap and service is quick.

an outdoor venue by the nile river in Zamalek. there are more than 30 flavors of Shisha (including cappuccino) there and the food is good. Go for the Hawawshi a fatty meat pie that is full of flavors.

Taboula is one of those fallback places - you know the food will be good, the environment cozy, and the clientele classy and respectful. Technically, the food here is not of the Egyptian variety, but leaning more towards Lebanese fare, but don't let that stop you from enjoying a meal here.

I came here as my last stop in Cairo before flying out the next morning. It was a welcome change of pace after eating lots of local food for over a week. They have pretty good pizzas and salads and there is a nice bustling vibe in the restaurant. Like everywhere else in Egypt, the service was friendly and welcoming ...

    El Kebabgy

    Sofitel el Gezirah Hotel

Sofitel el Gezirah (022 737 3737) In a city where outdoor dining is a rarity, El Kebabgy is a welcome addition even if it means eating at a hotel. Reserve a table closest to the water and order the mixed grill (a tender assortment of lamb, chicken, and veal) to share. As you’re leaving for after-dinner drinks at Buddha Bar ...

Pretty good food, especially the spread of dips with pita. Nice atmosphere for lounging around for a bit.

    Citadel View Restaurant

    Al Haram Street, Cairo Egypt

A bit of a decieving name actually. The restaurant is in Al-Ahzar Park which is facing the Citadel. Anyway it is a very nice restaurant but quite expensive as far as Egyptians are concerned. It is about the same as a meal in the US but then money goes way further here in Egypt.

Egypt, Khan El Khalili, Naguib Mahfouz Restaurant

A decent restaurant found in the middle of the Cairo bazaar. The food is authentic and good, it is very relaxed and large enough for a group. It doesn't have windows, however and lacks any chance of people watching.

    Khan el-Khalili Restaurant

    5 Sikket al-Badistan

Yeah, it is touristy. But the food is good and the atmosphere is fantastic. This is also one of the only nice sit down places near the bazaar. A great place to take a break from the chaos of the market.

    El Sit Hosneya

(023 338 6007) Located in the un-touristed upscale enclave of Mohandiseen, Al Sit Hosneya is best during the month of Ramadan. An utterly festive atmosphere and a shared smorgasbord of the best home-cooked Egyptian food will leave you full and satisfied. Request one of the more private side rooms, away from the air-conditioners that drip. Reservations essential. No booze.

I wasn't a huge fan of a lot of the food in Cairo but this restaraunt changed my mind about Egyptian food. Everything we ate was very good and the decor was very cool, the people very hip. Try the Umm Ali desert!

A wonderful floating restaraunt on the Nile. Pick your fish from the selection, tell them how you would like it (grilled or fried) and enjoy while watching the cruise boats go by. Make sure to order the tahini to dip both your pita and your fish. But make sure you ask for bottles of water to be opened at the ...

Yummy egyptian food for local prices. We enjoyed a falafel sandwich for about 12 cents US and a shwarma for $1.80. Fight your way through the crowd around the cash register to get your receipt and then take it to the guys who will prepare your food for you. Good food, amazing prices and a fun experience!
