Arc’teryx meets Anthropologie at Lake Tahoe’s newest place to stay. Just minutes from both the water and the Heavenly Mountain ski resort, it was designed with high-style adventurers in mind. Its 50 chic, sleepaway-camp-inspired rooms (some with bunk beds) substitute lanterns for lamps and survival guides for Gideon Bibles. Nightly group meals encourage hostel-like mingling—as do the outdoor fire pits, ...

There are firepits here, and a great view from the bluff. I heard that the trial down to the ocean has recently eroded though. Watch out for poison oak everywhere here.

You don't have to stay at the Inn to enjoy it. It's in the heart of Big Sur and is a nice little pit stop for the road weary. Go to the river behind the Inn and sit in one of the chairs in the middle of the river. Nice unique spot.

Fair - 70% of guests recommend

Curry Village is a good option--in the middle of Yosemite but with a range of reasonably-priced accommodations (from tent cabins to motel rooms). There also is a swimming pool, restaurant, and convenient store, which is great for some post-hiking pampering. The catch twenty-two about the place is that because there are so many public facilities it can get crowded--actually, mobbed--during ...
