For a 5-star bistro inside a ritzy resort, I expected FAR better. The ambience and decor was lavish enough, with bright open rooms that let the SoCal sun stream in, and gasp-worthy views of the surrounding valleys and golf course, but the food left much to desire. Service was rushed and sterile: though not unfriendly, the server stepped in front of pictures or interrupted conversations at our family reunion so he could get his job done. When we asked for more time to decide on our meals, he gave us about 30 seconds before coming back and asking for our order. The menu is minimal, with basic choices including salads, a club or chicken sandwich, or a few entrees like steak and fish. My club sandwich consisted of 3 slices of hard toast and a thin slice of turkey, a sprig of lettuce, and a few chopped bits of bacon - though the fruit bowl was impressive with orange slices and berries instead of the generic melon. My uncles and dad ordered steak, which arrived looking like a kids' portion - $28 for about 5 short slivers of beef, and it was practically swallowed by the enormous white plate. And we were never offered dessert or coffee afterward. Overall, I found California Bistro overpriced and disappointing.
