- Calzaiuoli Hotel
My overall impression of Hotel Calzaiuoli is that the room was beautiful, the hotel has all the amenities and physical things that you need, and the place is lacking in heart. Still, it's a nice place to stay. Easy to find and in a great neighborhood, it makes such a difference to be in the pedestrian zone! Everything is quieter, cleaner, and moves at a more human pace. Although the lobby is not more than a glorified hallway, it is still really nice. I love the room. Even the way the room number was lit was great -- it looks cool and is super functional. The room had one of those electric water heaters so I could make my own coffee or tea in the morning and night. That is one of those small features that can make a big difference. Another detail was that the headboard was tall enough and soft enough to actually lean against while reading in bed. Again, beautiful to look at as well as being really functional. The ceiling was gorgeously painted. I loved the bathroom! Glassy, open, spacious design and a shower head that envelopes you with water. Very luxurious. Aside from the breakfast room, there was also a library/lounge that really felt like someone's living room. A great place to relax and chat if you don't want to be in your room.Recommended for:

This hotel is on a bustling street, but immediately inside it’s surprisingly calm and tranquil. It’s got tons of natural light and a relaxing colors. I hear all the rooms are nice, but I particularly liked the suite I was in, which feels more modern than much of the hotel (apparently it is actually newer) and has one of those awesome, big, rain-style showerheads that are so hard to find in Europe. I also really liked the bar, which is small, enclosed, warm, and intimate. It made me wish I had two or three friends with me to drink whiskey and play cards all night long (or invite the friendly bellhop fellow to join me). Overall, this hotel isn’t over-the-top, but it’s really nice.

The decor in the dining room and meeting room looks like my great-grandmother's house (so much floral wallpaper), but the decor in the rest of the hotel is much more palatable. I liked being so in the middle of the city - literally stepping out the front door and being amidst the bustling traffic. The suite is quite spacious and felt extremely clean and cared for. The bar is also kind of a strange space - I wouldn't want to hang out in there so long, but I wouldn't mind having breakfast there either. Overall this place is totally fine - but with so many other places to stay in Florence, it wouldn't be my personal first choice. However, their online reservation system seems much more user-friendly and convenient than many other Italian places I've visited.
