Finally checked this place out... ON HALLOWEEN!!!! They had a morbid anti-sanrio (hello kitty, batzu maru, keroppi, etc) theme with special signature cocktails.
MEMBERS ONLY: The bar is a "members only club", $20/year. I got in thanks to my bf who was fortunate enough sign up for one last year. He was able to let 3 non-members in. From what I heard, it's not that hard to be one. If you're not a member then I heard there's a small cover.
AMBIENCE: Dim. They have an cigar lounge/patio in the back with glass ceiling and a fire place. Loooooved the anti-bloody-hellokitty decor.
DECOR: Bloody kitty dolls hanging by its neck from the ceiling, "die kitty die!" written on the hallway wall, slashed/duct taped kitty dolls, etc.
DRINKS: We ordered some halloween signature cocktails. I forgot the name but one is called "feline blood" and another had the word "dead" and "hello kitty" in them...My favorite one was Natalie K's drink with chili pepper. Tasted like that mexican candy called tamarindo(?).
Their drinks are stiff and worth the price. My boyfriend got lucky with the tequila punch bowl thanks to a generous bartender.
CROWD: Not as crowded because not many people knows about this place.
ENTRANCE: Through a garage on flower street.
HISTORY: Use to be a mediocre bar called Doheny that a lot of people disliked. $2k/year snobby exclusive club that closed down around 2009/2010.

A GEM! This place is hidden behind the driveway, but you can't miss it with the big Cana neon sign on Flower. You have to pay $20 to join their annual membership, which entitles you to bring 3 friends at any time. If you want to bring more friends, you'll have to call ahead.
I was here on a Saturday night and it was just the way I like it...enough people to get the party started, but not crowded where you're squished like a sardine.
The drinks average to $12 +tip and they are all freshly made. I think my favorite would be the Flower Street Sour (it includes a tiny raw egg mixed in). One plus on their drink is the ice, weird? Some of their drink has a big huge cube of ice, love! It makes it sooo easy to sip, sip, and sip away.
Here's another for you, 'Brazilian Necktie' Its a cucumber drink with a bit of sour and spice. I quite enjoyed it and the bar seemed to lined with folks drinking the 'Brazilian Necktie'. A good refreshing drink!
Anyone a lover of coconut? They have 'Coconut Water' here and accordingly to my friend, it's delicious! The drink comes in a coconut and dark rum inside.
Okay, be warned! '28 days later' is strong...I saw another table ordering a round for their whole table and I wanted one! It comes in a big mustard color tiki cup with sprigs and springs of mint, yum. I didn't finish the drink cause I already had a couple previously, but this is a birthday drink for your dear friends!
Hopefully, I'll make it back soon. Btw, they have happy hours on weekdays. But the drinks are limited to their mojito and daiquiri, CANA expand your happy hour drinks, pleeeease!

I really like this place. The drinks are great and made with exceptional skill and care. But what I really like about this place is the atmosphere. It's cozy, intimate, and relaxing, but at the same time fun and has friendly energy about it. Probably my favorite bar downtown that I've visited.

Drinks on the inside, a fire place and cigars on the outside. This is a members only rum bar (with more than just rum) that features actual mixologist making your drinks with a meticulous amount of care. These are you're typical college bartender throwing vodka and cranberry juice around. It's actually fun just watching them make any number of their signature drinks. They even taste them (don't worry, they don't touch, they use the finger over the straw trick to get a little liquid) to make sure they are just right before serving them to you! They have a small patio if you feel too cramped or if you are in the mood to light up a cigar. It's seldom uncomfortably packed but there is almost always a nice crowd. Though they don't have food, they have menu's to surrounding restaurants that will gladly deliver if you are hungry. Well worth the membership fee.

Some friends and I went to Caña Rum Bar for some drinks on Friday night for a birthday and had a great time!
Apparently this is a members only Rum Bar. We stood outside for a while, but it turns out the membership is only $20 for the year. It definitely worth it. The drinks are great and it s very entertaining watching them make them. The bartenders really take the time to make sure each drink is perfect. Their drinks are classified under three categories Daggers, Pistols, and Canons. They each vary in strength, so they have drinks to satisfy any occasion from a chill night to a drunken party night!
The overall atmosphere is intimate. with plenty of table and booths to chill and talk with friends. They even have a outdoor patio for smoking cigars!
Caña Rum Bar is a nice alternative if you feel like going out, but want to avoid the craziness of clubs. It is a nice place to lounge, and chill over some cocktails.
