Yes, a fair amount of Cancun is a booze-soaked haven for spring breakers. However, there are plenty of gorgeous, drama-free family resorts that cater to folks who want to experience the tropical Yucatan climate. There are significant Mayan ruins here, such as El Rey and the Yamil Lu’um, a crumbling tower of pale gray stone. Learn more about this ancient civilization at the Museo Maya de Cancun. For a literal taste of Mexico, take a tour of the Museo Sensorial del Tequila.

A perfect fit for the "typical" college spring break. Lots of nightlife, lots of drinking, lots of tourists. From a cultural experience perspecive, it is very limited. The small native city of Cancun is accessible by bus and offers a wonderful weekend market, but other than that the main hotel zone if devoid of Mexican culture. If you're looking for a vacation to party and have fun on beautiful beaches though, Cancun is for you!

If you go to cancun you must spend some time on the beach. get up early and watch the sun rise over the caribean sea. The water is nice and warm and the sand is ivory white. There is so much to do.

The Cancun trip exceeded expectations on just about every front, food, location, beach, drinks, pool, staff, cleanliness, and weather. We ALL had a great time. It was wonderful, and we all talked about going back, maybe even next winter.

Beautiful beaches and pampering resorts only a quick flight from the United States. Even better: easy access to the nearby islands and the Riviera Maya.

For someone who is more active, enjoys good food (not whatever the inclusive resort cooks up) and isn't much of a partier, Cancun's downtown and resorts don't hold much appeal. But I loved my trip to Cancun's nearby island of Isla Mujeres!

Cancun is a wonderful city full of exciting things to do. If you are staying at one of the Palace or Hard Rock resorts in Cancun, a bus ride to the main square downtown is a nice way to start your journey. In 2013, the cost was $1.00 each way. Historic churches, shops, cafes await you if you decide to leave the resort which we often do not.

I was so apprehensive coming here, thinking it would be Vegas by the sea. The view from above on the arriving flight seemed to confirm my worst fears. But that was before I swam in its beautiful sea - as clear as it gets and like being in a warm bath. Don't even think about swimming inland, it's croc infested. Some super places to eat too. At the end of the day it's a resort and attracts people who like resorts. If, like me, you loathe that, make sure you come off season.

Cancun is incredibly safe, day or night. I travel there and the surrounding region a lot, many times solo, and have never had any problems with crime in over a decade's time. (I co-author a guidebook to the region.) The only caveat: though I'm not aware of any cartel activity it's best to stay away from drugs. Buying/selling/using them not only puts you in a potentially dangerous situation but if you're caught by authorities, you're pretty much guaranteed a stay in jail with very little the U.S.,or any foreign, government can do to help you.

There is a hotel for every budget in Cancun. The good hotels are modern and world class and the budget hotels are exactly that. What attracts the masses are the white sand beaches that go on for days. The crystal clear waters and more activities than you could do in a lifetime.

I'm not raving about Cancun for its wet T-shirt contests and its open-bar deals. Or its humongo resorts. But it gets five stars for truly amazing beaches, for hidden-away taco stands, and for really lovely Mexican nightlife downtown. The trick is to hop on the bus and explore, break out of your hotel, and definitely go to a public beach on a Sunday, when all the locals are out and about.

Packed with tourists almost year-round, Cancun has earned its reputation as America's Caribbean playground. The stereotypical all-inclusive resorts that you're imagining are concentrated on the city's best real estate, along a narrow strip of land with open ocean on one side and a lagoon on the other. The beaches are fantastic, and you're never far from a bar or restaurant. Further inland, the city of Cancun feels more like Mexico - with good taquerias, cheap artisan markets, and much, much cheaper accommodations. If you stay in the city to save some money, cheap public buses run to and from the beaches all day. (Bring water bottles with you, because it'll cost a ton once you're at the beach.)

The best vacation I have had so far. Perfect for relaxing and soaking up some sun. Several tours are available, my favorite was Chichen Itza and the Mayan ruins. The resort staff were very nice and helpful. They did a great job of creating a friendly and welcoming environment. The food was great too. Everything was freshly cooked right in front of you and there wasn't a single thing that didn't taste great.

Cancun is the place for every type of traveler. There are many white sand beaches to enjoy the turquoise water and different water sports. Swim with dolphins, snorkel or scuba dive, ferry to the island or visit cenotes or historic towns. Lots of good restaurants and bars, shopping malls and mercados, tours and ruins to visit. The locals are incredibly pleasant and helpful and there is lots of fresh fish to be had.

You want fun in the sun and lots of drinking. Well Cancun is one of those places. We did an all inclusive, and so we went crazy drinking and didn't have to worry we would have to pay on top.
Mexico is probably one of the only places where beer is cheaper than water. I remember going Downtown and beer was 2 for a $1. Now why wouldn't you drink at that price.

Find Hotels in Cancun:

Description

As one of the first planned tourist cities in the world, Cancun is wholly dedicated to the pleasures of a sun and sand vacation. On the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, Cancun boasts fine white sand beaches and warm turquoise water. The Hotel Zone is just what it sounds -- hotels, dining and shopping, geared towards international tourists, cruise ship passengers and all-inclusive vacation resorts. To add a bit of adventure to your vacation, venture out from the city to go on a Jeep safari, visit Mayan ruins, swim with dolphins at an adventure park or explore offshore on a boat trip. While chain restaurants abound, Cancun's dining options have expanded into the gourmet side featuring Yucatecan cuisine like poc chuc (shredded pork marinated in sour orange juice) or succulent lobster. For night owls, Cancun has a vibrant nightlife, with a multitude of bars and clubs for all ages. These are especially packed during Cancun's busiest week with the under-25 set: spring break, which can run anywhere from mid-March to mid-April.
