The layout of the one bedroom suite provides enough space for a dance party -- but this probably isn't the hotel for it. It's an extended stay that seems to cater to no frills, long-term travelers. You'll find a lot nearby: a big movie theater, REI and countless shops. They have an honor system snack bar housed in the same room as laundry and fitness equipment. It offers a lot of space, and everything except an oven -- though it has a two-burner stove. No pool here -- but they have a nice gazebo where you can grill or just hangout in the shade.

Tucked away in the Arboretum a few miles north of Austin’s downtown, this hotel does the trick for anyone looking to spend a long weekend shopping with the girls or family. The rooms have more space than I expected and come with a small functional kitchen with ample cabinet and counter space. There’s also an above-average amount of desk and counter space throughout the room. The king sized bed suites come with a chair, rather a sleeper couch like most king bed suites in this hotel’s class. This hotel is more built to spend your hotel time in your room rather out and about within the facility. There isn’t a pool, the lobby is just the receptionist’s desk, but there’s an on-site little store, and a good-sized gym.

Hidden near the Gateway Shopping Center, Candlewood Suites is remarkably impressive considering its outside simple appearance. Depending on the room you get, you may end up with a suite that has a separate bedroom space with an extra vanity and closet space or a simple suite. The living area has a fold out sofa, a flat screen TV that can be adjusted forward or back with a DVD player, in which free DVD’s can be chosen from a collection in the lobby area. Since the television is secured on the wall, there is a long counter space for use. Each kitchen has a large refrigerator, a microwave with complimentary popcorn, a stove, dishes, and pots and pans. There is no breakfast, but that is made up for the free use of the washer and dryers in the snack and fitness center. There is also no time limit in your stay!

This is yet another affordable option for business or family travelers in the Arboretum area. There is a gym and laundry room (perfect for extended stays) and guest room TVs have VCRs and DVDs to watch movies from home or complimentary rentals from the front desk. The Domain is also just a few minutes away, so there's plenty of great restaurants and shops nearby.
