Unlike many new or recently renovated hotels, the Candlewood Suites is a modern hotel that does not feel like you are walking into an office.
This is a long stay hotel that goes out of its way to accommodate their guests, who are mainly professionals on extended work projects, with a all the amenities you would expect but catered to people who are residing there over months or even years. That the hotel has managed to combine both the efficiencies of a modern short stay hotel and the comforts of home is quite brilliant.
I actually really like the atmosphere of this hotel with its warm decor, modern appointments and amenities, and friendly staff.
Because it is generally a long stay hotel, there is a much more relaxed atmosphere than you would expect in a modern airport hotel. Many of the things, such as laundry, are free and they have a food and beverage room that guests can use on the honor system. That's a nice touch!

Just across from the Portland airport, the Candlewood Suites is a long-term hotel aimed pretty much exclusively at business travellers. All the rooms here have kitchens and some of the larger, one-bedroom suites have a long conference desk. The kitchens are better than what you’d find in most studio apartments and they all have dishwashers, stoves, full-sized refrigerators, and large microwave/convector ovens. There’s also a small shop on site selling basics like cup noodles and cereal, and it’s open 24 hours.
As the hotel caters to long-term guests, they have a lot of amenities you wouldn’t find elsewhere, such as an outdoor barbeque and free laundry facilities. They also allow pets for a small cleaning fee. Like most hotels in the area, they offer a free shuttle to the airport 24 hours per day.Recommended for:

This is a well reviewed long-term hotel, so there are nice touches like board games and free dvd rental, a weather forecast and things to do around town on the weekend written on the white board. People are put up here when they're working construction or their homes are gutted and insurance is footing the bill, but if you're paying your own way, I'm sure you can find something cheaper on craig'slist. I don't think it's that walkabe of an area, although, they will drive you down to cascade station max, that would get old being dependent on a ride to public transportation. There's chain food down there, but right near the hotel there's just Shilo Inn's lounge and Denny's. Your grocery options are limited, so it would be best to have a car if you're really cooking or cooking for a family. The studios are pretty small, but they would do, and there's a pool and little work-out room. I just wouldn't want to stay here for a few months as some guests do because it's not a normal neighborhood.Recommended for:

Like a beacon in the storm, this large hotel stands out against the dismal neighborhood it resides. The concierge was extremely pleasant and helpful and I was surprised by their rooms as well. The larger, dark-wooded rooms each have full desks with office chairs, kitchens with a fridge and stove, and nice bathrooms. I was told the hotel wants to exude a “family feel” and so provides free shuttle services, free laundry [B.Y.O.D(etergent)], and a food room called the “Candlewood Cupboard” which is stocked with snacks and where payment is either put on your tab or through a cut-out slit in a cupboard door and based on the honor system. It may be in a desolate area, but it’s pretty close to everything “Portland” like downtown, OMSI, and the zoo for example, and if you don’t mind driving a bit, the Colombia Gorge.Recommended for:
