Definitely a tourist trap, but on the good side. Make sure to put money in your meters! The cops will ticket! Lots of jewelry shops, candy shops, clothing shops, etc. You'll find everything you need here to bring home to the family.

A lot of good restaurants and great shops to check out here. you can go whale watching or to the aquarium as well. Definitely a very worthwhile place to visit near the great pebble beach golf course and the laguna seca international speedway!

Cannery Row just screams tourist traps. Aside from the Aquarium there are really nothing worth checking out. Just bunch of mediocre restaurants and tacky shops with flashing display trying to lure tourists in. Do not be tempted! At least walk a few blocks away from here to find better places to eat if you must stay in the area.
I would much rather spend my money in Camel-by-the-sea. Another tourist spot but more charming and elegant.Recommended for

Cannery Row has plenty of shops and is definitely crowded. It's a historic place, and you can tell just from driving through it that it looks a little old. It's somewhat a tourist trap though. However, the Aquarium is here too, and that is worth a visit.

Cannery Row is certainly a tourist destination, but there's still interesting things to see there. Monterey Bay Aquarium is at the end of the row.
If you're a Steinbeck fan and that's the reason you're here, you'll probably be disappointed. You can, however, go out to Salinas to the Steinbeck museum.

Yes this area can be touristy, but it's the heart of the Monterey Bay and offers a lot for people coming for the first time to visit. There's actually a bike path that follows from fisherman's wharf all the way out to lover's point and I highly recommend for any cyclists or families who like to bike to take this path leisurely him along the route.
It's a beautiful area but can't get crowded so be prepared before you come.

Touristy, kitschy, crowded and loads of fun. I love places like this. It's the actual historic cannery district, redeveloped for shopping and entertainment on the east end of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's pretty much a carnival type atmosphere without the amusement rides. Lots to see and do, and spectacular coastal scenery along the way.
