Carioca da Gema was among the first samba clubs to return to the formerly derelict neighborhood of Lapa when it opened back in 2000. Today, dozens of nightspots line the nearby streets, but this buzzing garifieira (dance club) still draws a loyal following. The warmly lit space, feel-good samba and festive crowd makes an unbeatable combination. The small dance floor does get packed — which can be a godsend for those who haven't worked out all those fast-moving steps. One of the best nights to go is on Monday, when many other samba clubs in the neighborhood remain shuttered.

Located in Lapa, this is one of the famous bars/restaurants there. They have many good samba concerts there (usually is many bands per night). Depending of the concert (if its famous or not), can be really full. The food is really good (arrive early to get a table, if you want to eat there). It's a bit small (they have 2 floors), so sometimes not so much space to dance.
