One of the world's most famous (and for tourists, notoriously difficult-to-find) performance venues, Carnegie Hall has welcomed elite musicians from around the globe since opening in 1891 with the American debut of Tchaikovsky. Since then, it's hosted a who's who of classical and popular artists, from Mahler to Miles Midori.

You've put this on the wrong place in the map. It's on 57th St (Midtown), not the East Village.

Description

If you love music, then you must make a stop at Carnegie Hall when visiting New York City. It holds hundreds of concerts every year by some of the premier artists in the world, encompassing a wide variety of musical persuasions. Its main space, the Stern Auditorium, holds nearly 3,000 patrons and typically features classical musical concerts due to its extraordinary acoustics. The industrialist Andrew Carnegie financed the unique construction of the building, one of the last in New York composed entirely of masonry. If you want a glimpse into the hall's storied past, be sure to make a stop at the Rose Museum, which displays exhibits detailing Carnegie Hall's storied past.
