This place is not what it used to be. Don't go in expecting to dine on anything too exotic. Game meat can no longer be served legally in Kenya so the only meats you get here are farmed: beef, pork, chicken, camel, ostrich, and crocodile. For about $40 you get all-you-can eat meat, a salad, desert, and sides. Drinks are extra - a lot extra. Still, for a group dinner, this is a pretty good option. Something about the atmosphere. Also, you've got the Simba club right next door for some pretty good nightlife.

I remember hearing about this place at a dinner party years ago and thinking it sounding interesting though I'm not big on game meats. Now while I would never consider ever eating Lion or the like...after seeing Gazelles, Zebra's etc getting eaten by Lions I figured trying some would be OK. For the most part though I thought the place was cool I can't say I had anything that I would include in my diet...or that tasted as good as cow or swine...

Although It's been a decade since I ate here, Carnivore will always stand out as one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life. In a style similar to Brazilian churrascarias, freshly grilled meat is constantly carved onto your plate until you say "when". However, at Carnivore these are no ordinary cuts of meat, but rather fresh crocodile, ostrich, antelope and other wild game culled sustainably from the adjacent Nairobi National Park. Each type of meat has a particular sauce that suits it best, and you'll be washing it all down with a 'dawa', the now ubiquitous Kenyan cocktail which actually originated here. I'd recommend going light on the zebra, as I over-indulged and ended up not feeling so hot on my flight back to London later the same evening. Otherwise, a meal here is an absolute "must do" on any visit to Nairobi.

Thia place falls easily into the overrated category. Its fame is derived from a time long ago when they served game meat, and now is a place where tour buses arrive, and showmanship has eclipsed the quality of the food. The service is friendly, and the meat is decent, but it just feels too much like a theme park now. For better quality BBQ head to Fogo Gaucho.

This place had the most to prove, being the quintessential venue for a serious sit-down meal. The presentation of the selection of beef and lamb cuts was not the most eye catching (it is never good when you cannot tell where the beef ends and the lamb begins). The surprise of the day, however, was the side order of ostrich meat balls that my waitress brought, on the house. With a dash of piri piri sauce, they were a highlight. One might want to keep an eye on the prices on the menu, as they are exclusive of VAT.

Very interesting restaurant where they will serve you all sort of meat in a all you can eat style. I tasted Camel, Crocodile and Ostrich. I took Crocodile 3 times and it tasted differently each time. I wouldn't go there every evening, but if you have the opportunity, you should.
