Peles Castle was not so much a military fortification as a posh summer house for the Romanian royal family. Its dark brown wood and beige walls resemble those of a hunting lodge. The image is completed by the surrounding pine forests and snowy Carpathian peaks looming above. The stone work, statuary and indoor movie theater, however, belie Peles' true purpose.Recommended for:

The complex is northwest of the town of Sinaia, which is 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Braşov and 135 kilometres (84 mi) from Bucharest. Nestled in the southeastern Carpathian Mountains, the complex is composed of three monuments: Peleş Castle, Pelişor Chateau, and Foişor Hunting Chateau.
Peleș Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914. Its inauguration was held in 1883.
