Grabbed a quick bite here in between visiting the 2 parks. Split an order of their tuna tartare tacos, which were pheNOMenal. Would have loved to try something else off of their menu, but the tumbly was more than satisfied. Of course, I wouldn't mind returning to do so.

Continued to be disappointed by Downtown Disney Restaurants...
Service was too slow at this restaurant despite having very few patrons on a Saturday Morning. 15 minutes before we were seated when there are tons of tables empty. Another 45 minutes for 4 breakfast dishes to be served. A good 15 minutes to bring us our check. Most of the time our server was no where to be found. We actually had to flag down some other servers to get simple stuff like condiments or creamer for coffee.
My wild mushroom omelet came out slightly dry and only lukewarm. I don't know what else to say except they must be severely understaffed in the kitchen and the dining room.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Located in the heart of Downtown Disney, this New Orleans/jazz-themed, Mediterranean-inspired bar is a fantastic place for a drink with friends. Order tapas and snacks and your choice of drink: in addition to the cocktails and beer, they have an impressive wine list!

Had a VIP card for a free Chef's Choice appetizer. Never been, so I was giddy with anticipation.
I quickly trotted up the stairs where I was greeted by someone at the desk. I showed her my card & she said she didn't know what it was & that I was the first one redeeming it. Firsties! I was seated inside at a table near the bar. The ambiance was really nice. Tony Bennett was crooning in the background as I was given bread & olive oil. One of the managers asked me if I have any dietary restrictions, to which I replied "No.". She took note of that and made preparations with the Chef. Ooh, a surprise Omakase-style! How daring! I love dining adventurously. Tickles the foodie in me, tee hee.
While waiting, I was given a complimentary glass of wine. What a nice touch! Again, I don't drink but I didn't want to be rude so I had a nip & tuck here and there. Wasn't for my taste, but I definitely appreciate the gesture.
My mystery appetizer is........
Skuna Bay Salmon w/ English peas, fava beans, black sesame tahini & homemade chicharron. Wow, what a delight! The salmon was cooked to perfection. Moist & tender. Perfectly-sized portions, too. The fava beans & English peas added welcome texture to eat bite. The black sesame tahini was the perfect "sauce", if you will, to spread on the salmon. The homemade chicharron capped the meal off. These weren't crunchy like the bagged chicharrones you buy at the store. These were more of the consistency of nori, the seawood wrappers used for sushi rolls. Delish!
Seating was plentiful. Next time, I believe I'll sit outside to people-watch & enjoy the view. I see Catal as being a great place to take someone out on a date. The decor was posh, the music low-key and the food sophisticated but not breaking the bank bad. I must come back to have the hamon Iberico & the bacalao. I've been dying to try some since I first became aware of those culinary delights on Bizarre Foods w/ Andrew Zimmern.
Service was sufficient & prompt. I didn't ask for much but my water was refilled & I was given information on the dessert offerings that Catal had available.
To sum things up, I enjoyed my dining experience at Catal. My Skuna Bay Salmon appetizer was magnifique & I greatly appreciated the complimentary glass of wine. I most certainly will come back and go for the bacalao & hamon Iberico, which I stated earlier.
Now, if I could only find a date......

I like UVA Bar, it's a nice way to end a full day at Disneyland and California Adventure. Smack dab in the middle of Downtown Disney, it's definitely a good place to lounge around and people watch. If you're in the mood for Mediterranean, Catal is your spot. Don't be surprised at the prices, you're in Downtown Disney and it's a tourist spot.

I sponsored a department dinner here a few years ago. The staff that helped me set this up did an excellent and thorough job. The food and the service was excellent. I felt that I was well taken care of. Nice wine list too. My only complaint is that the room, although well appointed was a bit small.

Last time I was in the Uva Bar, I ordered the mezze and some kind of salad with arugula, candied pecans, and apple. It was slightly pricey for a quick lunch (approximately $25 with tip), but it was quite tasty. Very relaxing break from the chaos in Disneyland.
