Construction of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe began in the late 19th century and ended in the early years of the 20th century. I particularly liked how the crown of Our Lady rests on top of the Church.
If you are looking to add historical flavor to your upcoming trip to Puerto Vallarta, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a worthwhile local attraction. Construction on the church began in the early 1920s and continued over the next 12 years, resulting in the ornate combination of architectural styles. Baroque and neoclassical features are present, along with Renaissance elements and local Vallartan influence. The cathedral is the center of Catholic religious life in the area and is particularly important in a 12-day festival held each December. As Puerto Vallarta's signature postcard monument, this elegant cathedral is a must-see.
