This cathedral is right up there as one of the most gorgeous cathedrals in the world. So many details and so much artistry.
Tip: you don't need to go to the Crypt or Baptistery(expensive for so little) so you can skip the all inclusive ticket. Just do the Duomo and if you have time, the panorama.Recommended for:

One of the more beautiful churches I have visited. The gothic style is in some ways overly ornate but somehow all of the details come together in a way that makes this church both distinctive and pleasant. A must see in Siena.Recommended for:

The Cathedral is one of the most remarkable Gothic buildings in Italy. The central part of the present church was built between 1196 and 1215, while a fantastic enlargement which had been planned was abandoned owing to the plague of 1348 (the Black Death) which prostrated the city of Siena. Only the unfinished walls remains of this mighty architectural dream.
Siena Cathedral’s art treasures include the carved Pulpit by Nicola Tissue, the Floor of inlaid marble, the monumental Piccolomini Altar.Recommended for:

The Duomo is utterly amazing. The combination of the horizontal stripes of black and white marble with the arches and the vaulted ceiling painted that deep aqua blue and studded with gold stars... and then high above you see all those disembodied pope heads, all in a row up there, so natural, looking this way and that. It's awe inspiring.Recommended for:

Absolutely stunning. The facade on this building is one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed. During tourist months, it's completely worth it to wade through the crowds to get up close and personal. Without a doubt a must-see.
