A legend built upon a legend: the West Hollywood outpost of the London restaurant of the same name, opened on the site of one of Tinseltown's most revered power lunching destinations: Morton's. The movie biz bigwigs are still as loyal to the place even though Cecconi's itself is these days a fitting metaphor for the big studios which are more driven by brand franchises than being factories of dreams. The wonderfully light pizzas are the real hit on the menu here, alongside Italian takes on seafood. Weather permitting - and assuming you can get one - book a table on the patio.Recommended for:
I’m a fan of Cecconi’s on Melrose Avenue, which is a great mix of food, ambience and people. It’s perfect for brunch on the patio, but for dinner I get the pappardelle, which they make with rabbit, lemon and thyme. I’m in a rut with appetizers, and if there’s tuna tartare on the menu I’m there. Cecconi’s goes beyond the standard avocado and adds chili and mint. Dessert for me typically is a decaf coffee, but when the mood strikes I devour their cherry tart, which is served with vanilla gelato.
We never need an excuse to dine on the front patio or enjoy a drink at the marble bar at Cecconi’s, but if the killer Bloody Marys and potato rosti with duck egg and black truffle don’t lure us in for brunch, the free daytime valet will.
