This is an easy zoo to visit, especially with a little 'un. It's smack dab in the middle of Manhattan, has a petting zoo component for curious fingers, and enough of a variety of animals to keep you (and your kiddoes) entertained for an hour or two. There are also regular feeding demonstations--the penguins are always a hit (check the website for the schedule). Kids under 3 get in for free too.

If you really don't want to go up the Bronx just to see the animals, the Central Park Zoo is an excellent compromise. There's a dolphin tank, polar bears, a penguin house and a steamy rain forest section. Kids usually love the petting zoo where you can buy handfuls of feed to offer the goats. FYI, this was the zoo featured in the film Madagascar.

The Central Park Zoo is great for kids. Right in the southern part of the park, it has a nice variety of animals and is accessible to the rest of the city. Once you're done gawking at the sea lions and penguins, you can head into the park and play.

This is a great little zoo in Central Park. The Polar Bear, Puffins, and Monkeys are my favorites. Great for a little escape into the wild in the middle of the greatest jungle of them all...New York City:)

I love the zoo as much as the next person, but personally I'd prefer the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago any day because it's free. The Central Park Zoo is way overpriced and it's really small, there really isn't that much to see. I did enjoy the penguins, seals, and polar bear who was swimming around in circles. If you're dying to see animals and can't make it out to the Bronx I'd say go, but remember there are much cooler things to do with $20 bucks in New York City.
