"So I sing you to sleep, after the lovin, with a song I just wrote yesterday" - "After the Lovin", Englebert Humperdinck.
I have an old soul. I enjoy listening to the lyrical musings of Elvis, The Rat Pack, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond and other singers that are "before my time". One perfomer that I greatly admire is Englebert Humperdinck. HIs work runs the gamut from beautiful love songs to baby-making, panty-dropping tunes. I had the great fortune to see him again in concert, front row, tonight for the season opener at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
The CCPA is a great venue that holds many events throughout the year. I've been in attendance for "The Colors of Christmas" w/ Peabo Bryson & friends, Bobby Vinton, The Lettermen, free orchestra concerts & a prior Englebert Humperdinck show. The building is very elegant & a perfect place to have special events such as weddings & reunions. Free parking is another great perk, which is hard to come by for what is presented here. To top it off, the proximity can't be beat. World class entertainment, close to home.
As for Englebert, he killed it tonight. He did some contemporary covers of "Smooth" by Santana & Rob Thomas, "Have you ever really loved a woman" by Bryan Adams & "Goodbye, my lover" by James Blunt. Of course, I was there to listen to his classics such as "Spanish Eyes", "After the Lovin", "The Last Waltz", "Cuando, Cuando, Cuando" & his pies de resistance, "Please Release Me". He's quite the showman. He really knows how to entertain a crowd. All this, from a septuagenarian (70+ year old) too! Being front row put me up close & personal to the performance & I had a ball tonight.
I highly recommend checking out the season schedule for the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts for something that may pique your interest. Free parking, great venue & being close to most major cities makes purchasing tickets for a show here an opportunity that you shouldn't let pass by.
See you at the box office for the next great performance!

This is the kind of place that I am amazed to find in such a tiny city. I've been here for a variety of reasons, from Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals, to food festivals and the Saturday Farmer's Market.
It's very well taken care of a quite a beautiful location! There is a great fountain outside too!
