They say that it's impossible to under dress in Portland and over mention the word Sustainable.
As I walked into this Cha Cha Cha for Lunch, I noticed that offered Sustainable Mexican and wondered what it meant this time. At least they didn't use the words Gourmet, Organic, or Fair Trade. After a little research, the key words here are local and family owned (albeit a small chain), fresh, special branded meats, and all natural. And if you order wisely, Gluten Free is possible.
All I was really looking for was a place to order at the counter, sit down, eat, and leave at my leisure. As such, I passed up a tempting selection of table service restaurants along this stretch of Hawthorne which will have to wait for another neighbourhood expedition.
I ordered a quesadilla, which I though was tasty enough, but lacked a certain grilled "crunch" that I like. I also appreciate that Cha Cha Cha offers beer and cocktails, and I certainly enjoyed the Negra Modelo with my meal. But that was actually my second choice, as the draft beer I wanted was not available. I would have also appreciated a small bowl of chips either provided or available at a small cost.
Seating was comfortable with good light from the large front windows. Inside and covered outside seating were both available. The prices were also reasonable. Yet based on this OK experience, I have a feeling that there's better Mexican food out there somewhere in the Rose City, Sustainable or not.
