    99 Steps

    15 reviews

Located on a side street in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas are these innocuous looking steps; but they are far from average. The 99 steps (they total 103 actually) lead to Blackbeard’s Castle, one of five National Historic Landmarks in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Originally built in 1679, local legend has it that the fierce pirate, Edward Teach or Blackbeard used ...

    Coral World Ocean Park

    11 reviews

First time I came here, it was just to fill time while certain others went shopping. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Coral World has a decent collection of animals (mostly, surprise surprise, marine ones) with some nice exhibits. They even have some sharks that you can get up close and personal with!

    Havensight Mall

    9 reviews

Shopping, shopping, and more shopping. This is where the cruise shippers spend their afternoons so if you don't want to fight the crowd, go when a cruise ship isn't in port (or at least when there's only one). The reason I go here is to get souveniers and shop at the Gourmet Gallery for upscale grocery selections!

Right on Main St. in the tourist shopping area, this old house shelters courtyards, stairways and nooks in quiet serenity. Pissarro left St. Thomas as a young man and became famous as a member of the French Inpressionist movemnt with Moliere, Monet, Cezanne, etc. Often listed as "French", Pissarro was actually a Dane (Danish Colonial Sephardic). This fellow was a ...

Dark red and forbidding, this 1600's Danish fort was the center of the Danish West Indies for 200 years. In the 1950's, it housed the Police, Fire Department, Motor Vehicle Division and city/county jail.
