CHAMBORD is 35 minutes from our house, or 15 minutes from Blois. It was built by King François 1st as a hunting lodge. In size, it’s second only to Versailles. François was a friendly guy who would say “Let’s go over to my place” (chez moi) meaning this magnificent pile of 440 bedrooms and 282 fireplaces. It has a famous double helix staircase designed by Leonard da Vinci, a friend of the King. Chambord is considered the finest example of Renaissance French architecture.
