This chateau was the inspiration for Versailles and it is easy to see why. With extensive grounds and beautiful architecture, Fontainebleau is incredible! If you enjoy architecture, history and chateaus, Fontainebleau is definitely a spot to check out. The only issue is that (if you do not rent a car) you have to take a cab from the train station to the chateau. It is a bit of a lengthy walk.

This was a wonderful surprise and less crowded than Versailles. It is a 40 min. train ride from Paris. The Chateau is well preserved with tapestries;but, it also had a lot of furniture there as well. There are beautiful gardens also. It was the home of many kings such as Henri IV who had much of the building done. Napoleon also lived there.Recommended for:Business Travelers
