Hidden off LA's Sunset Strip, this faux French castle has been a legendarily discreet hideaway for movie stars, rock musicians and other famous faces for generations. Still today the hotel is known for its stellar service - there's almost nothing they'd say no to doing for you - and its romantic garden bungalows, ideal for naughty trysts.

If you'd rather see some "living" history, play it cool and make your way to Chateau Marmont, a hotel seeped in Hollywood lore and home to more celebs in any given month than all five seasons of Celebrity Rehab combined. You might not be able to afford more than an iced tea on the beautiful garden terrace (food is somewhat more broke-girl-friendly at Bar Marmont, just down the hill), but you'd be hard-pressed to find better stargazing anywhere in town.

The Chateau Marmont is like an oasis in the heart of the city, except for the fact that it's no secret. Definitely an attraction for tourists and celebs alike, the hotel is always busy. But how can you blame them? The grounds are beautiful, the pool area a mini retreat, and unique individual bungalows that are more like retro condos. The hotel itself is stunning as well, with quite a celebrity history. Dare I say it, but the Chateau is "so LA". (I mean that in the best way possible!)

Wow. I have seen all of the room categories and while this hotel is extremely expensive, the rooms leave a bit to be desired. There are other reasons to stay here. Star sightings are abundant, the service is discreet, a legendary hotel where so much of Hollywood's history has transpired. The pool scene is pretty fabulous, bring your biggest movie star shades, you'll need them.

A Hollywood legend as much for its striking neo Gothic fantasy architecture as for being a playground for celebs behaving badly. Best known of all as the venue for the tragic death of John Belushi after a cocaine binge, further back it was cited as the place where Clark Gable and Jean Harlow held their secret trysts. James Dean and Doors singer Jim Morrison both behaved badly here too. The hotel is also thought to have been the inspiration for The Eagles' hit song 'Hotel California'.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

This historic hotel was designed and constructed in 1929 to be earthquake proof, and survived major earthquakes in 1933, 1953, 1971, 1987 and 1994 without sustaining any major structural damage. The Chateau has a legacy as muse for generations of artists, photographers, novelists and screenwriters. Hunter S. Thompson, Annie Leibovitz, Dorothy Parker, Bruce Weber, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tim Burton, Lorne Michaels, Jay McInerney, Sofia Coppola, among others, all have produced work from within the hotel’s walls. Enjoy a meal at the hotel’s restaurant to take in the historic grandeur of the hotel, or grab a drink and a bite at the Bar Marmont, just a few doors up on Sunset.

I love this old Hollywood hotel and the chateau is one of LA's greatest landmarks, proving that the city's obsession with youth does not extend to hotels.
The burgers at the bar are fantastic and the cocktails, like everything else at this hotel, are cool and classic.

This hotel is central, has good food and is a great place to hang out. And if you are in Los Angeles and want to brush shoulders with the celebs this is the spot. Don't miss checking out the ceiling at Bar Marmont... It is covered in butterflies!
There are two restaurants at the hotel, both of which are popular with locals and celebrities. Wireless Internet access is available complimentary throughout the property. The front desk is open 24 hours a day, as is room service and concierge services. Other amenities include a fitness room and valet parking.
There are 63 guest rooms, suites, and bungalows at Chateau Marmont. The beds are fitted with European linens and all rooms have cashmere throws. The 42-inch HDTVs come with DVD players and a DVD library, as well movies on demand. Multi-line telephones have conference, fax and modem capabilities. Direct-dial lines are available upon request.
- Valet parking: US$ 32 per night.
